The Pre-Launch Checklist Most Hosts Skip

Most listings don't fail because of the apartment. They fail because the listing itself was published half-finished: phone photos in random order, default settings, house rules copied from a forum. Guests can't see your furniture quality in search results — they can only see what you shipped. Here's what the skipped checklist costs, and the pieces that matter most.

Photo order is a strategy, not an afterthought

Your cover photo decides whether anyone opens the listing; the next four decide whether they keep scrolling. Lead with the single most emotionally legible space (usually the living room styled for the target guest), follow with the bedroom, then the kitchen, then the detail shots that prove care — coffee station, workspace, welcome basket. Twenty great photos in the wrong order underperform twelve in the right one.

Settings are pricing in disguise

Check-in and check-out windows, minimum stays, and your cancellation policy all change who books and what your calendar looks like. Defaults are set for the platform's convenience, not yours. A 1-night minimum on launch day invites the exact guest you don't want; a moderate cancellation policy converts measurably better than a strict one for an unreviewed listing.

House rules are a legal document you write while calm

Rules written after your first bad guest read like revenge. Rules written before launch read like professionalism. Cover occupancy, quiet hours, parties, pets, smoking, and fees — clearly, briefly, and in a tone you'd be comfortable reading aloud to a good guest.

Your host bio is a trust signal

Unreviewed listings borrow trust from the host profile. Two paragraphs — who you are, how you host, how fast you respond — measurably soften the "zero reviews" problem.

Then, and only then, comes pricing — your first 90 days follow The Launch Ladder, which we've covered in its own post.
